Asheville Interior Design awards from the Builders Association of the Blue Ridge Mountains
We don’t want to brag, but we are very pleased to have won three coveted WNC Star Awards based on our interior design work in 2023.
THE WNC STARS are awarded annually by the Builders Association of the Blue Ridge Mountains (formerly Asheville Home Builders Association). On October 13, 2023, the BABRM handed out over 50 awards in categories ranging from advertising, remodeling projects, custom-built homes, and interior design.

In our first year as a standalone Asheville area interior design firm, FS Design Group was up for three STARS awards:
- “Best Interior Design for a Home Between 2,501 to 4,000 Square Feet”
- “Best Interior Merchandising for a Home 2,501 to 4,000 Square Feet”
- “Best Website for an Associate”
In a clean sweep, we took home the top award in all three categories for which we were nominated!

The Interior Design and Interior Merchandising submissions featured FS Design Group’s work on the Mountain Modern project located in North Asheville. The home features a neutral palette, clean lines, and open spaces. (See our brief on “What Makes Mountain Modern Design“) Our design is rooted in the environment with a breathtaking wall of windows and accents of wood, stone, and leather, as if made from the very mountains surrounding the house. The result provides the homeowners a nature-inspired calm and a locale-inspired peace.
However, our vision for the home could not have happened without the partnership of the award-winning Milestone Contracting. They won multiple awards the same night, including “Best One of Kind Home” for this same Mountain Modern beauty.
The “Best Website for an Associate” award was another well-earned accolade. Our principal designer, April Gahagan, tasked her team this past spring to build a website that would pictorially explain our firm’s vision while matching our own design aesthetic. Oh, and she wanted it done in two weeks!
Our web guru, Chadwick Self, of Chachwick Creative Designs, took on the difficult challenge of creating a website design for a design firm and he nailed it with time to spare. Chad has been a great partner to FS Design Group that we continue to lean on him for social media and blog posts.
Our WNC STARS awards automatically enter us in the North Carolina Home Builder Association Awards next year and we look forward to being recognized again by our respected peers in the building industry. However, while are thankful for the awards, we design for clients —not awards— in mind.
We can’t wait to share photos from several additional projects we are currently working on, both residential and commercial. While they may not be up for any awards (yet!) we truly enjoy the variety of designing a new construction home alongside a builder and architect in the morning, meeting with a homeowner after lunch to create a design “refresh plan”, and then finishing our day with a commercial client designing custom furniture to fit with their free flow layout. The juxtaposition of different building requirements with varied client styles fuels our creative motivation and has us excited to come to work every day.
Thanks to the BABRM for both putting on a stellar gala and awards ceremony at the AB-Tech Community College’s Conference Center and for recognizing the hard work our team delivers on a daily basis.
