A Modern take on Traditional Design Overlooking Downtown Asheville Blends Elegance and Comfort
This Town Mountain home’s best feature was the stunning sunset views of downtown Asheville, NC. The interior, in contrast, was a major letdown. Chopped up rooms, confused layouts and bland finishes made this house seem dated and cold. Our task was to revamp it into a home that was both functional and elegant.
Our design inspiration centered around the art deco style popular during the Gilded Age that first thrust Asheville onto the national scene in the 1920s. Our biggest challenge was reworking the home’s entire front entrance. The ceiling and walls were removed to allow for a jaw-dropping two-story open foyer with a striking chandelier sending chards of light onto both floors.
We added a gilded speak-easy styled bar and a built-in gas fireplace, designed custom furniture and reconfigured the layout into functional spaces. We created drama by using wallpaper and layered tile designs in unexpected areas like the TV sitting room and dining room ceiling.
Throughout the home, art-deco inspired patterns, rich colors, luxurious crystal and gold accents were overlayed to create an elegant and timeless interior. The home is now transformed from chaotic and bland to graceful and stylish; the perfect counterbalance to those outside skyline views. Follow the link to see Before & Afters of the project.
